In short. Voice Typing turns your speech into text on the web page you are using. It has no accounts and no server of its own, and it does not send your voice, your text or your settings to us. Speech recognition is performed by your browser's speech service, not by us. A few settings are kept on your own device. The details are below.
This policy is provided by the developer of the Voice Typing extension for Google Chrome ("we", "us"). It describes what the extension does with information, what it stores, and what happens when you contact us. Questions go to getvoicetyping@gmail.com.
When you start dictation, the extension asks the browser to recognize your speech. Speech recognition is provided through Chrome's Web Speech API. Depending on the browser's implementation, audio may be transmitted to the browser provider's speech-recognition service to be turned into text. Voice Typing does not operate that service and does not receive, store or have access to the audio. The microphone is used only while dictation is on. Dictation stops when you stop it, press Esc, close the tab, or after 30 seconds without speech.
The recognized text is inserted into the editable field you chose on the page you are on. It is processed on your device and is not sent to us or to any third party by the extension. What you dictate may be anything you choose to write — including personal communications such as emails or messages — and the extension does not keep a copy of it: there is no history of dictated text.
To place the text correctly, the extension accesses only the page elements necessary to identify the active editable area and to insert the recognized text — for example the field that has the cursor and the words immediately around it, so that spacing and capitalization come out right. It does not collect, store or transmit web page content to us. It runs on a page only after you start dictation there.
The extension keeps a small number of settings locally in your browser, using Chrome's extension
storage (chrome.storage.local). They stay on your computer, are not synchronized to
any server by the extension, and are deleted when you uninstall it:

While dictation is running, the extension also keeps a short-lived record of which tab is being dictated into (Chrome's session storage). It is discarded when dictation ends or the browser closes.

The extension does not request access to your browsing history, bookmarks, cookies or downloads, and does not request persistent access to all websites.
When the extension is installed, it opens a welcome page at getvoicetyping.com/welcome/ once. That page, and this one, are static pages: they set no cookies and run no analytics. Like any website, they are delivered by a hosting provider whose servers may keep standard access logs (the requesting IP address, the page requested, the time) for security and operational purposes. We do not use such logs to identify or track anyone.
If you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use them only to reply to you and keep the correspondence for as long as needed to handle your request. We do not add you to any mailing list.
Voice Typing's use of information received through Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
The extension is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Everything the extension keeps is on your own device and under your control: you can change or clear the settings from the extension's settings page, revoke the microphone permission in Chrome, or uninstall the extension, which removes its storage. We do not hold personal data about you unless you have emailed us; in that case you can ask us to delete the correspondence. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.
If the extension ever starts handling information in a way this policy does not describe — for example if we add an account, a service of our own, or analytics — we will update this page first and change the date at the top. The current policy always lives at getvoicetyping.com/privacy/.
